ScaR is designed, developed and evaluated as a joint effort of members from the Social Computing research area and the software services team of the Know-Center. This allows us to combine newest research insights with software development skills and therefore, ScaR should be of interest for both academics and practitioners in the field of recommender systems.

Emanuel Lacić

Operations Area Manager

Emanuel Lacić is the Operations Area Manager of the Social Computing area at the Know-Center. He holds a M.Sc. in Software Engineering and Information Systems from the University of Zagreb and, is currently a PhD student at the Graz University of Technology. He is the author of ScaR and his research interests lie in the field of Recommender Systems and Deep Learning.

Dominik Kowald

Research Area Manager

Dominik Kowald is the Research Area Manager of the Social Computing division at the Know-Center. He has a PhD. (with hons), MSc. (with hons) in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology. He has finished his PhD in Oct 2017 in the course of the European funded research projects Learning Layers and AFEL on cognitive inspired recommender systems for social tagging and microblogging environments.
Dieter Theiler
Dieter Theiler studied Software Engineering and Economy at Graz University of Technology and was responsible for the software engineering process in the course of the EU-IP Learning Layers project. His interests include software architecture and engineering, TEL, CSCW as well as recommender systems.
Tomislav Đuričić
Tomislav Đuričić is a Software Engineer and a Scientific Researcher and holds a Master's degree in Software Engineering and Information Systems from the University of Zagreb. He is currently a PhD student at the Graz University of Technology with the focus on Complex Network Analysis and Recommender Systems.
Leon Fadljević
Leon Fadljević studied Software Engineering and Information Systems on Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at University of Zagreb and joined the team in 2017. Working in the field of Data science, his main focus lies on Deep Learning, Artificial Neural Network analysis and Recommender Systems.
Michael Wittmayer
Michael Wittmayer studied at the Graz University of Technology and currently holds a BSc in Software Development and Business. He joined the Services & Development Team at the Know-Center in 2013. His current main focus is on designing and implementing scalable and distributed software applications and frameworks.
Simone Kopeinik
Simone Kopeinik is a senior researcher and project manager at the Know-Center. In her PhD, she specialized in using cognitive models for recommender systems in sparse data learning environments. Simone is working on recommender systems and is interested in broader aspects of AI and computational social systems, especially with regard to the responsible and safe use of technology.
Peter Müllner
Peter Müllner is a researcher and PhD-Student at Know-Center. He obtained a Master's degree in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology in 2019. Since then, he is working towards a PhD in privacy in recommender systems. Specifically, his main research interest lies in increasing users' privacy in modern recommender systems..

Robert Thomann
Robert Thomann is a software engineer with experience in a wide range of software development, spanning from safety critical embedded development to web services. He holds a BSc in Telematics from the Graz University of Technology and pursues a Master in Knowledge Technologies. His current focus is on the development of data science applications, especially recommender systems.
Stefan Schmerda
Stefan Schmerda is a junior engineer working in the Social Computing area at Know-Center and has a background in economics where he currently holds a Bachelor's degree from the KF University of Graz. He is interested in quantitative fields like data science, econometrics and generally in statistical modelling and applications.
